Repurpose Your Content As A Content Building Strategy

Repurpose Your Content As A Content Building Strategy

Creating Content

When creating content, do you think of other methods you can use to deliver the same content to your audience?

Just like we all have different ways of learning, we all have different ways of absorbing information.

Some find it easier to absorb content visually, some prefer to read, some like to listen and some find experience to be the best way to absorb information.

It is for this reason, it is a good idea to consider repurposing all your content.

Ways To Repurpose Content

This post you are currently reading is delivering my thoughts to you in written form.

At some point, I may choose to create a short video about this post, which would appeal to those who like to absorb information visually.

I could also take it further by turning this post into a podcast, thereby appealing to those who absorb information by listening.

For those who like experimenting, I could create a step-by-step guide that can be used to convert this blog post to the different content forms mentioned. This method would appeal to those who find it easiest to learn by ‘doing.’

When repurposing content, there is no need to make it an elaborate exercise. Simply take your existing content and turn it into a podcast, video or step-by-step guide.

Repurpose Content To Build A Library

Repurposing your content helps build your content library while also appealing to a broader target audience.

This can be explained with the help of an example.

Say you have created a piece of content in the form of a blog post and then created a podcast, a short video and a course which you then publish on an online learning platform such as Skillshare, you have in effect expanded that single piece of content into 4 different pieces of content:

  • A blog
  • A podcast
  • A short Video
  • A course
Content Promotion

Each piece of content gives you a different URL to use in promoting not only your site, but also the content topic you are addressing.

When it comes to promoting the content, you will be in an enviable position as you are able to use different mediums to promote – Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

You also don’t need to worry about posting the same link over and over again as you have 4 different links to choose from; which also means you can select the most appropriate content form to promote for each platform.

Summary

The ideal would be to repurpose your content as you create it. Realistically, this is challenging to do especially if you are the sole employee in your business.

What you can do is focus on one form of content creation method at a time. Start with writing blog posts, then moving onto either creating audio content and then visual content.

You may also want to revisit old blog posts and give them a revamp by adding more up-to-date information, include new thoughts or removing outdated information.

No matter what method was used to create content, it will need to and should be revised and updated periodically.
