Looking For A Handmade Group?
Have you looked for and joined groups on Facebook, only to find you are not getting what you want out of it? Perhaps there are just too many rules to follow or posts are not moderated and the group has fallen foul of becoming a place to dump and run.
There are definitely plenty of groups like that out there. Thankfully, the opposite is also true. There are groups out there that are supportive and allow you to share what you are working on.
This post is going to feature such a Facebook group. The sole aim of the group is to help people who handmake products.
The group referred to in this post started out of frustration because a lot of groups on Facebook that focused on handmade products, had lots of rules around what could be posted and when it could be posted.
This group allows handmade posts to be posted whenever members choose. It is a place for those who love handmade things, which is why it is a place you can buy, sell, browse, advertise your handmade business and more.
The group in question I am referring to was started by an Australian mum based in Melbourne, Victoria, on the east coast of Australia.
Group Name: Handmade Mums
Public or Closed Group: Closed
Group Type: Parents
1) A Little About Handmade Mums
Handmade Mums is a closed Facebook group for parents who handmake products. The group also has an Instagram account that feature products and gives shout-outs to Facebook and Instagram followers to further promote followers’ creations.
2) What Is Handmade Mums About
Handmade Mums is a group for creative mums who want to share what they have made.
Members are part of a community where you can show off your creations, ask questions and get that much needed pep talk when one feels a little despondent.
This is especially useful as most of the members are parents and are either all going through the same stage of childrearing or have gone through raising children.
3) Why Focus On Handmade Products
People usually start making things either out of need, curiosity or as a personal challenge. Making these things is quite an achievement and wanting to share this achievement with others is quite normal.
The group is a place to share these achievements.
4) How Handmade Mums Helps Creative Mums
By being able to post page links, product images and website links of whatever has been made, is how the group helps creative mums out there as demonstrated by the number of members in the Facebook group.
The group has over 3,800 members and averages 16 posts a day.
5) Handmade Mums Location
The Facebook group is only open to those who live in Australia. This doesn’t mean you can’t be part of the community if you want, as you can follow Handmade Mums on Instagram no matter where you are in the world.
Finding a group that is as generous as this is not easy. This has a lot to do with the type of people in the group and the time and effort that the group’s owner puts into the group.
As she says, ‘I just help these mums by not having stupid strict guidelines & help their handmade businesses grow & letting them have exposure.’
